Fall Menu – Wine Pairings

As we move into Fall here in California, it is natural for us to seek out wines that offer a different flavor profile to pair with heartier dishes on cool nights. At Urban Plates, our thoughtful wine selections complement the diverse flavors offered on our menu. These beverages are meant to be enjoyed with your friends and family around the table, either by the glass, carafe, or bottle.

The Fall grape harvest puts me in a mood to enjoy the wines of earlier harvests as they have matured. Here are my recommendations for this food season.

Panko Crusted Idaho Trout with Seaglass Chardonnay

The Seaglass Chardonnay is aged in stainless steel, so it offers a style that many Chardonnay drinkers will find unique. It will be like a squeeze of fresh lemon on this tender Idaho fillet, with a counterpoint to the textural quality of the breadcrumbs and herbs.

Braised Beef and Mushrooms with Daou Cabernet Sauvignon

This braise has become a classic on the Urban Plates menu, but it seems more fitting now as part of the Fall season. It reminds so many of home-cooked family dinners and goes so well with the full bodied Daou Cabernet Sauvignon. The tannins are balanced with the richness of the tender beef, and I recommend it being served with our buttery mashed potatoes.

Wild Caught Albacore Nicoise Salad with Babich Sauvignon Blanc

The Sauvignon Blanc grape variety classically has flavors that are reminiscent of cut grass, fresh herbs, and citrus with a bright refreshing quality on the palette. It pairs well with the briny element of the marinated olives, capers, and the Wild Caught Albacore. The Urban Plates chefs sear it rare and present it over our fresh lettuce blend and then dress the salad with a delicate mustard champagne vinaigrette.

4 UP Selections: Rosemary Potatoes, Macaroni and Cheese, Sesame Broccolini, Miso Mushrooms & Sweet Potatoes with Fess Parker Pinot Noir

Years ago, when I was beginning to learn about wine, I was drawn to Pinot Noir. It has a storied history, but for me it simply came down to how much enjoyment it offered from the layers of red fruit, earth, and elegant tannins. The Fess Parker is so approachable with a balance of flavors that it pairs well with a hearty Urban Plates 4UP Plate. The hint of rosemary, accented with the bitterness of the broccolini, the beautiful savory notes of miso and button mushrooms, all wrapped with the creamy mouthfeel of the three different cheese selections used in our macaroni make the Fess Parker Pinot a perfect partner.

Caramel Apple Cake with Hess Chardonnay

The fruit of the harvest and the warmth of baking spices all intertwined with vanilla is what brings these two together. You will delight in the flavors of Urban Plates Caramel Apple Cake that is beautifully complemented by the full-bodied Hess Chardonnay.

Enjoy!
